Description

Product overview
Cylindrical bearings are the state-of-the-art solution for replacing end-of-life roller bearings and line rocker bearings. RESTON®CYLINDER bearings combine the kinematic advantages of modern spherical bearings with the dimensional constraints of existing linear/roller bearings, enabling narrow, elongated support footprints where width-to-length ratios must match existing structures.

Characteristics
  • Typical load capacity: up to 100,000 kN (project-specific verification required)
  • Designed for replacement of line rocker or roller bearings in existing supports
  • Combines spherical-bearing kinematics with linear/roller-bearing dimensions
  • DUPLO variant provides centric load introduction and rotation about any horizontal axis

Principle
RESTON®CYLINDER bearings accommodate rotations by sliding on curved surfaces similar to RESTON®SPHERICAL bearings; however, the primary sliding surface is cylindrical. Displacements are taken by sliding. Each bearing comprises three main elements: a lower concave element that supports the spherical cap, which in turn supports the sliding plate. The sliding surface beneath the spherical cap is cylindrical (axis aligned with the transverse y-axis) to permit the main rotation about the transverse axis. The surface above the spherical cap can be flat (RESTON®CYLINDER MONO) or cylindrical (RESTON®CYLINDER DUPLO) depending on whether rotation about the longitudinal axis must be facilitated.

Applications
Where existing support structures impose narrow, elongated footprints, RESTON®CYLINDER bearings allow practically any width-to-length ratio to be defined for project requirements. They are the recommended solution for replacing worn roller or line rocker bearings while preserving the original support geometry. The DUPLO variant enables centric load transfer combined with rotation about any horizontal axis, offering improved kinematic behavior compared with conventional roller, line rocker or MONO-type cylindrical bearings.

Technical data / specifications
  • Model family: RESTON®CYLINDER (MONO and DUPLO variants)
  • Load capacity: typically up to 100,000 kN (requires project-specific calculation)
  • Rotation accommodation: sliding on cylindrical surfaces; primary rotation about transverse axis; DUPLO enables rotation about any horizontal axis
  • Displacement accommodation: sliding on curved surfaces
  • Design advantage: permits narrow/elongated footprint and flexible width-to-length ratios to suit existing supports
  • Core elements: lower concave element, spherical cap, sliding plate
  • Sliding surface options: flat above the spherical cap (MONO) or cylindrical above the spherical cap (DUPLO)
