Description

Overview
The EDFH-1 combines ultra-precision sinker EDM and high-accuracy EDM drilling on a single compact platform designed for thermal stability, repeatable mechanical precision and operator ergonomics. The machine supports both high-accuracy drilling and standard sinker EDM operations while maintaining micron-level depth control and fine surface finishes.

Key performance and capabilities
  • Surface finishes down to 1.3 µin Ra (0.25 µm Rz)
  • Generator capable of producing inside corner radii as small as 5 microns (0.0002″)
  • Z-axis jump speed: 10 m/min (394 ipm)
  • Depth control capability: ±1 micron using a core-cooled ball screw
  • High-speed C-axis providing rotation speeds up to 2,000 rpm
  • Programmable W-axis provides rigid alignment for EDM drilling die guides and includes a middle guide arm to support and prevent vibration of small diameter electrodes
  • Flushing pressures up to 10 MPa (1,450 psi)

Machine design and stability
The structure is engineered with alignment tolerances of 2 microns (0.00008″) or smaller over the full stroke of each axis. Thermal-stability measures include isolating heat-generating components in the electrical/generator cabinet from the machine structure and integrating the dielectric reservoir into the base casting. A stationary work table further improves precision, and a programmable 3-sided rise-and-fall work tank ensures excellent tank access and operator ergonomics.

Control and operator features
Makino's Hyper-i control consolidates machine functions into an intuitive interface. Notable elements include a large high-definition 24" class touch screen, the E‑Tech Doctor diagnostic function, on-board machine manuals with integrated training videos, straightforward customization and remote monitoring options to support advanced operations and operator preferences.

Related capabilities
  • High-accuracy EDM drilling and sinker EDM processing on the same platform
  • Support for small-diameter electrode stability with middle guide arm
  • High-speed machining while maintaining micron-level depth control
