OverviewCOOL MUSCLE 3+ (CM3+) is an integrated servo system combining driver and controller functions for compact, autonomous motor control. It performs periodic onboard calculations and supports conditional branching and arithmetic processing based on operating conditions and external inputs, enabling the motor to operate autonomously and reducing overall system cost.
Simplification by autonomous distributed controlCM3+ enables autonomous distributed control so the PLC does not need to centrally manage every device. This lowers host-controller load, simplifies system architecture, reduces wiring, and can eliminate external controllers in certain multi-axis setups.
Branch processing during positioning operation — intelligent multitasking motorCM3+ runs two concurrent program types: a Motion Bank for motion/position sequences and a Logic Bank for sequencing, conditional branching, and arithmetic. This allows condition-based branching and onboard calculations for advanced motion logic without a central PLC intervention.
High precision, speed and torque via simple commandsControl is executed via simple serial commands (RS232C), removing the need for special software. Multiple axes can be networked by daisy-chain wiring; up to 15 axes are supported by linking motors in series.
Supports various control methodsOperation data can be set, selected and executed from a host controller. Available interfaces include I/O control, RS232C, and Modbus (RTU) over RS485. EtherNet/IP communication was planned for release (2022).
Higher torque compared to conventional servo motorsUnlike typical servo torque control that often uses rated torque near 30% of maximum, CM3+ enables control up to approximately 80% of maximum torque, allowing downsizing of motors and lower-cost torque control designs.
