Description

Overview
COOL MUSCLE 3+ (CM3+) is an integrated servo system that combines motor, driver and control functions in a single unit. It includes a periodic calculation processing function that enables conditional branching and arithmetic processing based on operating conditions and external environment. The integrated control IC lets the motor operate autonomously, reducing host controller complexity and overall system cost.

Simplification by Autonomous Distributed Control
CM3+ supports autonomous distributed control so local motion tasks can be handled at the motor level instead of by a central PLC. This reduces PLC workload, simplifies host control architecture, lowers system cost and minimizes wiring requirements.

Branch processing during positioning operation
CM3+ uses a dual-program structure: a Motion Bank for motion sequences (e.g. positioning) and a Logic Bank for overall sequence logic. Both banks can run concurrently, enabling conditional branch processing and arithmetic evaluation tied to real-time operating conditions.

High precision, speed and torque at lower cost
Simple command interfaces provide precise motion control without specialized tools. Communication uses standard RS232C serial protocols; no proprietary equipment or software is required. Multi-axis networks can be implemented via Daisy Chain wiring, supporting up to 15 axes with reduced cabling.

Supports various control methods
Operation parameters can be set, selected and executed from a host controller. Available interfaces include I/O, RS232C and Modbus (RTU) over RS485. EtherNet/IP connectivity is planned for release in 2022.

Higher usable torque compared to conventional servo motors
Conventional servo torque control typically operates near rated torque (around 30% of maximum torque for continuous operation). CM3+ can be controlled in a usable torque region up to approximately 80% of maximum torque, enabling smaller motor sizes and cost-effective torque control strategies.

Key features
  • Integrated servo system with built-in driver and controller (control IC)
  • Autonomous distributed control enabling local/motor-level autonomy
  • Periodic calculation processing for conditional branching and arithmetic based on operating conditions and environment
