Description

Overview
The PERSEUS® TG 309 Libra® is a compact evolved gas analysis (EGA) coupling for thermogravimetric analyzers (TGA) and simultaneous thermal analyzers (STA). It connects a small FT‑IR spectrometer directly to the TGA outlet via a short, heated transfer tube and a heated gas cell to enable fast, low‑volume analysis of condensable and non‑condensable evolved gases.

Key advantages
  • Direct TGA–FT‑IR coupling with minimal footprint, suitable for R&D and QA laboratories.
  • Retrofit/upgrade option for NETZSCH TG 309 Libra systems (Select and Supreme variants eligible).
  • DLaTGS FT‑IR detector operates without liquid nitrogen, compatible with long runs and autosampler/ASC operation.

Applications
  • Characterization of decomposition reactions
  • Solid–gas reaction studies
  • Compositional analysis and volatile identification
  • Evaporation and outgassing investigations
  • Analysis of aging, desorption behavior and long‑term thermal stability

Coupling & software integration
The system supports seamless instrument control and synchronized data acquisition. NETZSCH Proteus® controls the thermal analyzer and is integrated with FT‑IR data acquired via OPUS software, enabling combined evaluation of TG curves and FT‑IR spectra (2‑D/3‑D plots), Gram‑Schmidt traces, peak area calculations and library search.

Accessories and extensions
  • Pulse TA: gas pulse/injection module for controlled gas pulses into the purge gas for advanced EGA experiments.
  • Automatic sample changer (ASC): optional, up to 204 samples; supports individual TG and FT‑IR programs per sample for unattended workflows.

Benefits / practical features
  • Short, low‑volume heated transfer path (direct to heated gas cell) for fast response and reduced condensation of evolved species.
  • Optimized design for analysis of condensable evolved gases.
  • No liquid nitrogen required for DLaTGS detector — facilitates long‑term measurements and autosampler compatibility.

Technical specifications
  • Gas cell length / volume: 70 mm / 5.8 ml (beam‑conforming design, no mirror inside)
  • Spectral range (FT‑IR): 350 cm‑1 to 8000 cm‑1 (KBr windows)
  • Gas cell windows: KBr; sealing: Viton©
  • Transfer tube heating: two options; temperature‑controlled (constant voltage supply option)
  • Gas cell heating: software‑controlled, max 200 °C
  • Detector (FT‑IR): DLaTGS (deuterated L‑alanine doped triglycine sulfate) — operates without liquid nitrogen
  • Automatic sample changer: optional, up to 204 samples (individual TG and FT‑IR parameters per sample)
  • Software: NETZSCH Proteus® integrated with OPUS for FT‑IR acquisition, Gram‑Schmidt plots, library search and 2‑/3‑D visualization
  • Designed for retrofit/upgrade to NETZSCH TG 309 Libra (Select / Supreme)
