Product OverviewAutofrettage Machines by Poppe + Potthoff Maschinenbau are designed to improve the fatigue strength and service life of high-pressure components such as common rails, pump heads, diesel injection lines, tubes, pipes, and other pressure vessels. These machines are capable of generating and controlling autofrettage pressures up to 16,000 bar, ensuring exact reproducibility and compliance with international standards. The autofrettage process involves pressurizing a component’s inner wall beyond its elastic limit, creating a permanent compressive stress layer after pressure release, which prevents crack initiation and delays fatigue failure. This allows for reduced wall thickness without compromising strength, safety, or service life.
Applications of the Autofrettage Process- Common rail systems and fuel injection lines
- High-pressure connectors, cross fittings, and pump heads
- Hydraulic pump housings, liners, and jackets
- High-pressure nozzles and other pressure vessels
- Defense applications such as gun barrels and cannon tubes
- COPV Tanks (with water) up to 1050 bar
