Description

Overview
Isothermould® is a system designed to achieve optimal power distribution on heater plates to improve temperature homogeneity within injection molds. It compensates for edge heat dispersion to control thermal imbalance of the heater plates, yielding more uniform heat distribution and better balancing within the mold.

The Issue
Heat is not evenly distributed within a mold. This results in heat loss between the centre and the edges of the mold. Uneven temperatures and volatile cure time negatively impact part quality and overall production.

Heat distribution is a crucial factor for both:
  • Flows and balanced filling of the mold
  • Curing conditions (cure time and part characteristic variances)

The Solution
Isothermould® reduces temperature variations. Benefits include:
  • Reduced cure time
  • Reduced flash and improved balancing
  • Improved part quality

Expert findings
Thermal variations with Isothermould® can be maintained between 1.5°C and 3°C, whereas without Isothermould® differences of 5°C to 10°C are more likely. This corresponds to an approximate 40% reduction in parts characteristic variances and around a 20% reduction in cure time without increasing overall heating power.

How Isothermould® works
The system is integrated into the heater plates and consists of one temperature control area per heater plate combined with distributed power rods. Its effectiveness is reproducible and does not rely on mold set-up settings.

Adaptability and proven effectiveness
Isothermould® is compatible with existing injection presses regardless of their size or number of cavities. REP has validated the solution on large machines with precise specifications.
