Overhead wire rope conveyors are used for in-plant transport, as suspended load transport allows hall spaces to be used for production or storage purposes. The principle is based on a rope stretched over a drive pulley and other pulleys. The rope is put into motion at the drive station by frictional engagement. The individual overheads do not have their own drive. The first advantage of this is that investment costs and maintenance requirements are both low with greater availability, and the second is that the chassis systems can be flexibly coupled and decoupled, which provides great flexibility in production. Hence overhead wire rope conveyors can ideally be used in continuous conveying processes.
