Description

Short description
  • Shaangu developed the EBZ series barrel-type centrifugal compressors with a single cylinder (one compressor unit) and single refrigerant circulation.
  • Designed for small and medium LNG plants (up to 2.3 million m³/day).
  • For larger LNG plants, multi-cylinder compressors are used according to refrigeration process requirements.

Description
The EBZ series is a barrel-type centrifugal compressor family used in Shaangu mixed-refrigerant LNG trains. The design includes an inner cylinder and an outer cylinder to minimize leakage and noise. The inner cylinder is removable without disconnecting related piping, simplifying maintenance.
  • Available models and nominal processing capacities:
  • EBZ35 — 0.15–0.3 million m³/day
  • EBZ45 — 0.3–0.5 million m³/day
  • EBZ56 — 0.5–0.8 million m³/day
  • EBZ63 — 0.8–1.2 million m³/day
  • EBZ71 — 1.2–1.8 million m³/day
  • EBZ80 — 1.8–2.3 million m³/day

Design & Performance
  • Flow range: 10–3000 m³/min
  • Maximum discharge pressure: up to 25 MPa
  • Serialization design with efficient three-dimensional impellers and matched stage configuration to meet pressure ratio and efficiency targets

Vibration and stability
  • Special vortex-slot and axial-slot geometries reduce overflow gas vortices and rotor-induced turbulence, increasing rotor damping and reducing vibration to improve operational stability

Comparison — Integral Skid-mounted Base Frame vs Traditional Base Frame
  • Layout: Integral skid: compressor, gearbox, lube-oil console, dry-gas seal system, oil piping and lube-oil cooler integrated on a single baseframe with single-floor layout. Traditional: equipment shipped and installed separately with multiple platforms and external piping.
  • Floor area: Integral skid: floor area reduced by over 40%. Traditional: larger footprint.
  • Workshop height: Integral skid: no second-floor platform required, reducing workshop height by 2–7 m depending on layout. Traditional: platforms increase workshop height and cost.
  • Civil works: Integral skid: minimal foundation (pile foundation) required. Traditional: substantial concrete works or frame-type foundations.
  • On-site installation: Integral skid: factory prefabrication, onsite mechanical bolting only. Traditional: extensive onsite piping prefabrication and instrument wiring.

Applications & Testing
By December 2019, Shaangu had delivered nearly 30 mixed-refrigerant single-cycle compressor trains in both traditional and integrated skid layouts. The EBZ series also supports propane pre-cooling + mixed-refrigerant processes used in some large LNG plants. Trains undergo performance testing in accordance with ASME PTC10 prior to delivery and have passed field performance tests.
