With the help of the Bluetooth evaluation board SFS/BE1, various Bluetooth sensors can be integrated into practically any control solution. In the process, the Bluetooth sensor data and received by a suitable collector functional unit and converted into a data format and interface protocol suitable for the respective PLC. Until now, machine and system designers have
been unable to use the wide range of IoT wireless sensor options, including machine-learning-based real-time data analyses, if the corresponding options for the PLC to be used in each case were missing. This problem can now be solved: per SFS/BE1, for example, the overall data image of the reference variable can be extended by a virtual sensor system.
Such an IoT retrofit enables innovative applications from the fields of condition monitoring and predictive maintenance, e.g. to transmit machine and plant states to PLCs as continuous or categorical output variables. But also air quality, CO2 and energy efficiency optimizations in building automation can be evaluated with the SFS/BE1.Sensor data that is included in a control application, for example as part of a reference variable, must be trustworthy in any case. Therefore, the scope of delivery of the SFS/BE1 includes the functional components of a digital trust chain, such as cryptographic methods to automatically check the authenticity of each individual sensor reading.
Safe Wireless Sensor Extensions for any Control System
The SFS/BE1 Bluetooth evaluation module can be equipped with various sensor elements, e.g. the BME680 gas sensor or a CCS811 air quality sensor.
