OverviewThe TS-13N inspects optical strain and striae in transparent materials such as glass and plastics. It reveals residual stresses and refractive-index irregularities that can cause fragility, curvature or cracking in finished parts, enabling quality control of annealing and forming processes.
Functionality and inspection methodThe unit features a rotating frame marked from 0° to 100°; 0° corresponds to the unstressed reference and the strongest strain colours typically appear near 90°. Inspectors set an acceptable quality limit on the scale: if strain colours are visible at a lower marking than the limit, annealing is considered insufficient. Visibility and colour intensity may vary with sample material and thickness.
Notes on annealingAnnealing consists of heating to a specified temperature, holding for a controlled period and then cooling slowly. Proper annealing relieves residual stresses, improves machinability and reduces the likelihood of cracks or deformation. Insufficient annealing commonly produces optical strain and striae detectable with this tester.
Images and samplesProvided sample images demonstrate typical effects such as resin flow patterns and glass striae to assist visual reference during inspection.
