Overview The bag dumping and feeding station of the RNT series enables efficient unloading of bulk materials from bags, sacks, small containers and bins. Powder, granulate or bulk material is emptied into the hopper and can be transported by vacuum conveying through a pipeline over a distance of up to 100 metres to a process system (mixer, reactor, filling machine, container, silo, etc.). Gravimetric emptying into a system directly below the emptying station is also possible.
Use and handling The RNT dumping station is suitable for feeding powder, granulate and other bulk materials from a wide variety of containers: plastic or paper bags, cartons, boxes, drums and barrels, containers or other packaging. Ergonomic aspects of handling such as container size and weight are taken into account in the design.
Modular design of the RNT 180 The modular system of the RNT 180 allows extensive customisation and contains numerous optional functions and details:
- Bag support shelf for depositing a bag, sack or container before opening
- Grille above the hopper to prevent unintentional entry of packaging and larger objects and to facilitate opening of bags; can serve as operator protection if a lump breaker is installed
- Screen deck to prevent contamination (e.g. shreds of paper packaging)
- Dust hood with closable door for low-dust emptying
- Dust hood with integrated dust aspiration and dust recovery system separates dust at the filter and returns it to the hopper
- Dust hood with connection for on-site dust extraction
- Dust hood with side connection flange for disposing emptied bags/sacks into a waste bag or continuous liner
- Filling Volume Extension Module for higher powder buffer capacity
- Material agitators (piston vibrators, fluidising aids) for bulk solids with poor flow properties
- Lump breaker / crusher installed at transition from hopper to conveying line to break up agglomerates
- Castors for easy transport of the station within production
Materials and surfaces Components in contact with the product are made of stainless steel 316L (1.4404 or 1.4435). The supporting frame is stainless steel 304 (1.4301). The seal between bonnet and hopper is silicone foam; EPDM foam is available as an option. Stainless steel surfaces are glass bead blasted; surfaces in contact with the product can be ground or polished on request.
Protection against dust and hazardous substances The RNT can be configured to meet different protection requirements such as minimising dust release to the environment, protecting the operator from hazardous dust, or protecting the product from contamination. Options include:
- Dust hood with closable door
- Dust hood with integrated dust aspiration and dust recovery including filter
- Connection for on-site dust extraction
- Glovebox including dust aspiration to open and empty bags inside a closed glovebox via glove ports
- Containment systems with glove ports for hermetic separation of operator and product
Reduction of material loss The dust hood with integrated aspiration and filter reduces material loss by separating dust at the filter and, during filter cleaning, returning the dislodged dust to the feed hopper so it can be processed further.
Easy cleaning The RNT hopper is designed with large radii in all corners to enable residue-free cleaning suitable for industries with strict hygiene requirements. The dust hood can be attached and removed quickly and is fastened with clamps; two people suffice to lift and place it.
Crushing of lumps and agglomerates A VOLKMANN lump breaker can be installed under the RNT hopper (example: DN250 lump breaker with motor and gearbox) to break up lumps so material can be vacuum conveyed through small-diameter pipework with lower air volume and energy consumption.
Conveying under nitrogen If required, materials can be extracted and transported under nitrogen or another inert gas. For operator and environment protection the emptying station must be equipped with a lockable hood and additional protective measures such as oxygen sensors as appropriate.
Variants and small versions The RNT is a modular series available in sizes such as the RNT 180 (example shown) and a small RNT variant (e.g. 80 litre filling volume) for installation under machines or to retrofit systems for automated transfer into a vacuum conveying line.
