General InformationThe main part of the QE-Probe XS11.QE is a potentiometric solid electrolyte cell (zirconia sensor). The sensor continuously receives a gas sample via gas flow over a heated catalyst that decomposes NH3. Cell and catalyst are kept at 760 °C to avoid unwanted reaction products (e.g. CH4). From the probe signal the quotient of partial pressures of oxygen-reactive furnace gases at equilibrium can be calculated (e.g. H2O and H2 or H2O+CO2 and H2+CO in the water-gas equilibrium).
Key propertiesThe QE-Probe is calibration-, drift- and maintenance-free. Use of high-quality components and materials ensures high long-term stability.
ApplicationsThe QE-Probe is used in thermal hardening technology for nitriding and nitrocarburizing processes to monitor the protective gas atmosphere. By combining signals from a QE-Probe and a Q-Probe, the nitriding number KN and, if applicable considering the fresh-gas composition, the carburizing number KC can be set and controlled.
