General features of the rubber compounds for Vacuum CupsA table (product data sheet) describes the rubber compounds used for the vacuum cups including: commercial name, international abbreviation, Vuototecnica abbreviation, positive and negative features, colour, operating temperature, hardness, chemical resistance, food standards and typical applications. These compounds determine cup behaviour (adhesion, temperature resistance, oil resistance, abrasion resistance).
Vacuum cups with supports- Traditional cup-shaped cups: suited for small objects with flat, slightly concave or convex surfaces. Diameters range from 4 to 45 mm depending on series. Standard compounds: natural para rubber (N), oil-resistant rubber (A) and silicone (S).
- Supports: cold fitted (no adhesive) on nickel-plated brass or anodised aluminium supports shaped to fit the cup; supports equipped with male/female threaded pins or threaded holes for fastening to automation.
- Availability: many product codes across sizes; cups in special compounds and supports in different materials available on request for minimum quantities.
Star Vacuum cups (SV series)The SV (STAR VACUUM) series is designed to handle flat and flexible objects (e.g., cardboard layering pads, thin metal sheets) without deformation. Internal rubber reinforcement sectors create a star-shaped bearing surface combining a soft lip for surface adaptation and a bearing surface for stability and rigidity. Can be fitted with male or female threaded metal fixing supports in anodised aluminium.
Maxigrip cupsDesigned for robot-automotive field: round/oval, flat and bellows types, with extremely flexible outer lip. Inside design facilitates drainage of oil and water and provides high friction for oil-covered metal or wet glass/marble. Standard BENZ compound features: hardness 60-75°Sh, working temperature -40 to +170°C, stain-resistant, excellent abrasion, water and chlorine-containing oil resistance. Support is vulcanised onto the cup.
Foam rubber cups and sheets (GERANIUM, NF neoprene, SB EPDM)- GERANIUM (OF): foam rubber with density enabling grip on uneven/very rough surfaces; working temperature -40°C to +80°C; self-adhesive side for quick fixing to supports.
- NF neoprene foam: recommended for lubricated gripping surfaces; working temperature -20°C to +80°C; excellent resistance to oils, sunlight and atmospheric agents; self-adhesive.
- SB extra soft foam (EPDM): open-cell foam used for OCTOPUS system gripping surfaces; self-adhesive; temperature range -40°C to +130°C; excellent resistance to heat, ageing and atmospheric agents.
Suction cups for packaging, plastic films and flow packsSeries specifically designed for thin, lightweight and delicate objects (plastic/paper bags). Thin lip adapts to shape changes; internal cleats distribute vacuum evenly preventing deformation or suction into central hole. Para compound recommended for best adhesion and gentleness on handled material.
Round, flat, rectangular and elliptical cups (with supports or vulcanised supports)Designed for handling wooden or plastic panels, thin glass, marble, fragile metal sheets, tiles and heavy loads. Many models include inner cleats to reduce sucked air volume and improve support; some include M8 threaded holes for insertion of a calibrated grub screw to reduce sucked air volume. Larger cups may have side threaded hole for vacuum connection. Options: cold-fit supports or vulcanised supports depending on series and heavy-duty requirements.
Concave, circular rim and special-shaped cupsCups for cylindrical objects (pipes, bottles), cups with thin lips for rough surfaces (e.g., grinding wheels), and specially shaped cups for CDs, labels, stickers, chocolate and many other specific tasks. Supports are anodised aluminium or nickel-plated brass; many cups are cold-fitted without adhesives.
Bellows and reinforced bellows cupsBellows cups are designed for packaging applications and for gripping flow packs and baked goods; their flexibility compensates flatness errors and allows gripping on inclined surfaces. Reinforced bellows and double-bellow versions provide rapid crumple/lift movement to prevent sticking between stacked items, and are used for heavy-duty packaging and handling of boxes. Available with male or female threaded supports; can be supplied in food-use compounds for packaging.
Special solutions- Vacupredator cups: for gripping bags, packs and flexible containers; include slotted internal plate and special foam rubber seal to prevent perimeter vacuum losses; lifting force calculated at minimum -75 kPa with safety factor 3.
- VMG134: suction cup for structured tiles made of high-density foam rubber, available in EPDM (SB), Geranium (OF) or neoprene (NF), self-adhesive side and anodised Anticorodal support with multiple attachment holes and two vacuum connections sealed with NBR O-rings.
- Bernoulli cups: made in anodised aluminium with stainless steel centre thrust disc; used for non-contact handling of fragile or delicate items (semiconductor plates, solar cells, foils, films); antistatic silicone spacers prevent transverse movement.
Supports, adapters and accessoriesWide range of supports and accessories: nickel-plated brass or anodised aluminium supports; adapters to change thread types (gas to metric, gas to NPT), galvanised steel adapters, couplers, articulated joints, AQ adapters (square flange) for robotic systems, gas-NPT adapters and threaded grub screws with calibrated holes to reduce suction section. CAD files available for many items.
Availability and orderingMost cups available in three standard compounds (N natural para rubber, A oil-resistant rubber, S silicone) and in many sizes. Special compounds and supports in different materials available on request for minimum quantities to be defined per order. Spare parts: cups usually replaceable separately by requesting cup indicated in the corresponding product table in the desired compound.
