A prism is a complex optical component with at least two plano surfaces separated by a wedge angle. Prisms are used to reflect or refract a beam of light. Our manufacturing capabilities include right angle, dove, penta, pechan, and wedge prisms as well as cubes, windows, precision flats, beam splitters, and mirrors. These components are found in dual channel instruments, anamorphic systems, imaging systems, and similar applications.
Optimax has interferometers, autocollimators, and a Wild Goniometer for precision measurement of flatness and angles. We also make transmission flats for interferometric testing of surface irregularity to 50th wave.
Optimax inspects 100% of all optics and provides test data with prototype orders. We utilize state-of-the-art metrology and provide on-time delivery guarantees to ensure your satisfaction!
Optimax can provide optics complete with BBAR, V-coat, and mirror coatings. We have four electron-beam coaters supported by a Perkin-Elmer Lambda 900 Spectrophotometer. For more details please see our Coatings data sheet. |

PPC provides high-quality custom optics and optical assemblies which
utilize our IBS coatings, ultraprecise fabrication capabilities and epoxy-free,
bonding technology—Chemically Activated Direct Bonding™ (CADB). They
are available in a wide variety of materials including fused silica, BK7, Zerodur®, LaSFN9, YAG, ULE, and other optical glasses and industrial crystals, and can operate over wavelength ranges from 250–2200 nm.
These assemblies are ideal for increasing the sensitivity in beam-delivery microsystems, fiber-optic, and endoscopic systems used in fluorescence spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, optical-coherence tomography (OCT), multiphoton microscopy (MPM) and confocal microscopy. Because of their miniature size, they can be placed right at the objective lens or at the tip of optical fibers and light pipes.
Whether you need 1 or 10,000 pieces, our precision wafer-based processes result in high yields and competitive costs, especially at higher volumes. The high-precision assemblies have been widely used for beam steering, wavelength locking and reference cavities in telecommunications and metrology.

Right-angle prism is the most common type of prisms. It is used to re-direct a beam of light at 90 degrees from the the incident direction or used as a 180 beam retro-reflector. They are often coated with various optical coatings to form cubic beam splitters and color separation cubes used in various projection systems.
High transmission can be achieved, using the hypotenuse face in total internal reflection (TIR), with an antireflection coating on the entrance and exit faces.
The prism can be used as an internal or external mirror by applying a metallic coating on the hypotenuse.
We also offer fused silica prisms, and precision grade and ultra-precision grade glass prisms with tighter manufacturing tolerances. |

Thin film coating is a vacuum deposition procedure used to enhance the transmissive properties of an optical surface. The most common types of dielectric coatings are anti-reflection and high reflection coatings, but beam-splitter, band pass professional filter, edge filter, and polarizing coatings are also available. Because thin film coatings are more durable than optical glass, coatings also help protect an optic surface from scratches and the environment.
Optimax produces optics up to 300mm in diameter with a wide variety of narrow and broadband anti-reflection coatings including doublet interface coatings. Both metal and dielectric mirror coatings are also available. For custom coatings, we utilize TFCalc thin film professional design software. Please see the reverse side for sample reflectance curves.
Optimax performs test runs of all coatings before beginning production to ensure a good design. We use a Perkin-Elmer Lambda 900 Spectrophotometer to check the performance of the coating upon completion. Adhesion, abrasion, and humidity tests are available to verify coating durability in accordance with sections of MIL-C-675C, MIL-C-48497A, and MIL-C-13508C specifications. Professional laser damage testing is also available upon customer request. |
