Label printers are specially designed to create marking labels. They can print bar codes, text, logos or graphic elements in black-and-white or color.
These devices are used in logistics, including supply chain management, box and pallet transportation and storage, and food and medical product traceability. Retail businesses use them to post prices and print out receipts, travel or admission tickets.
Thermal transfer label printers use a thermal head and an ink ribbon for color printing (CMYK). Thermal paper offers inexpensive printing of black-and-white documents. Laser and inkjet types also can be used for color printing.
These devices are generally capable of using label rolls. The labels can be adhesive, long-lasting, or chemical-, oil-, water-, UV-, tear-, freeze-, or even fireproof. Some label printers can be combined with a radio frequency identification encoding device to create RFID tags with graphic elements.
Printers can be portable or be mounted on a packaging line or to a desk. They can be accessed via USB ports, Bluetooth® or infrared connection, or a network. Models used on packaging lines print and label at the line's speed.
Consider the unit's DPI (Dots Per Inch) resolution and IPS (Inch Per Second) printing speed.
