A scissor lift consists of metal beams arranged in the form of a scissor mechanism capable of lifting or lowering loads and/or people to or from varying heights.
These devices are usually used for handling operations, production and similar industrial activities. They also are found in the maintenance of electrical installations, window washing and for other tasks.
The lift may have one or more scissors mechanisms, horizontal or vertical. Light loads are handled by a hydraulic cylinder. Heavier loads require use of an electro-hydraulic system. Certain models are diesel-powered. There are both stationary and mobile versions, the latter sometimes self-propelled.
Determine the need for a fixed or mobile unit. Choice also will depend on maximum load capacity and number of people that can be carried, platform dimensions, required working height, duty cycle in lifts per hour and whether the work environment is open or covered, involves exposure to corrosive products and other parameters.
