Every day SICK sensor solutions simplify production for thousands of companies around the globe. Our 3D smart camera, the IVC-3D, brings a new dimension to sensor intelligence and to flexible automation solutions.
The real world has three dimensions! Using traditional 2D camera solutions will always be a compromise when height matters to you. IVC-3D is the first smart camera in the world that inspects all three dimensions, giving you unsurpassed inspection results and robustness.
Application examples:
Inspection and volume measurement of bread in bakeries
Misshaped bread will be rejected automatically to increase quality and reduce problems in the packaging station. The volume measurement can be used for on-line adjustments of the process parameters.
Inspection of brake plates in automotive industry
Three features are inspected on the brake plate: the surface, height position of the plug, and the angle of the metallic spring. All are 3D features and are inspected simultaneously.

This makes it possible to process the image directly in the camera, or to preprocess it before transmission. Crisp, clear monochrome images captured by the advanced 1/2-type IT CCD sensor at SXGA resolution can be processed at 15 fps (34 fps at VGA resolution). Camera functions including gain control, partial scan, binning and gamma control can also be controlled via the same PC.
Sony introduces a new addition to its machine vision camera lineup, the all-in-one XCI-SX1 Intelligent Camera. This camera is equipped with a 1/2-type high resolution (1280 x 1024) progressive scan CCD, an embedded CPU and a 10Base-T/100Base-TX interface for network connectivity.
Incorporating the high-performance and flexible AMD Geode™ GX533 processor with a fully customisable Windows© or Linux® operating system, the XCI-SX1 camera is designed to allow integrators to install a variety of image-processing software applications or to develop and apply customised applications to meet specific user needs. Unlike conventional machine vision cameras, images captured by the XCI-SX1 are processed within the camera and the processed-data is directly transmitted to a PC over a network, RS-232C link or Digital I/Os. The XCI-SX1 camera eliminates the need for conventional image-processing systems and allows for simple setup and efficient factory workflow. for a wide range of machine vision applications such as object recognition, inspection, measurement, alignment and more.
With its high-performance, flexible integration and versatile interfaces, the durably-designed XCI-SX1 Intelligent Camera is ideal.

Vision components introduces the VCProfessional family, a current developed series of intelligent cameras suited even for highly demanding applications. The compact devices are freely programmable stand-alone image processing systems which can be integrated into almost any industrial facility. As all image recognition and processing functions are provided by the camera, no auxiliary PCs are necessary. The new Smart camera models are based on the tried and tested VC standard series and come equipped with technical enhancements: they feature both an RS232 and an Ethernet interface as well as high-performance Texas Instruments processors (400 MHz, 3,200 MIPS). With 32 MB RAM and 4 MB flash EPROM, the cameras have twice the memory capacity of their predecessor models. Additional storage memory is provided by a 128 MB SD card. Proven features, such as the cameras' VGA monitor output or their four digital inputs and outputs remain unchanged. Thanks to the real time operating system VCRT, the devices are able to multitask. Furthermore, they have a high speed trigger input that enables jitter-free image recording even at very high reading frequencies. Six different VCProfessional Smart Camera models are now on the market. Resistant to vibrations and shocks, all VC cameras are suitable for use in rugged industrial environments.

Vision Components presents the VCOptimum Smart Cameras family. Due to its improved specifications, the current series is suitable even for highly demanding applications. Incorporating the latest Texas Instruments DSP generation (1 GHz, 8,000 MIPS), the VCOptimum models are among the fastest intelligent cameras on the market. In spite of their small size, their performance compares favorably with the current PC generation. Depending on the model, the VCOptimum series offers a maximum resolution of 2 megapixels and maximum frame rates of 242 fps (484 fps in binning mode). The Smart Cameras feature an RS232 and an Ethernet interface as well as an external trigger input that also serves as an incremental encoder input. The basic versions come equipped with 64 MB of internal RAM, which can be optionally extended to 128 MB. The cameras are freely programmable stand-alone image processing systems which can be integrated into almost any industrial facility, thereby rendering auxiliary PC stations unnecessary. Just like their predecessor models, the new high-performance Smart Cameras have a direct video output, four digital SPS inputs and four digital outputs. All VC cameras are suitable for use in rugged industrial environments. Seven different VCOptimum Smart Camera models are now on the market.

Vision Components' VisiCube camera, which measures only 65 x 45 x 45 mm and weighs 170 g, provides a highly compact image processing solution for industrial environments. The Smart Cameras come complete with measuring lights and an integrated lens. They feature a 400 MHz (3,200 MIPS) processor from Texas Instruments and a 1/4" CCD sensor, which offers a 640 x 480 pixel resolution and a frame rate of 32 fps. The cameras are equipped with 32 MB DRAM and 4 MB Flash EPROM for program and data storage. They are integrated into existing automation environments via an RS422 and an Ethernet interface – the latter also enables live video display on a PC. Standard equipment also includes two digital inputs and four outputs. A robust aluminum and plastic housing provides IP65/67 protection, making VisiCube units suitable for rugged environments. Further accessories, such as external lights, tilted mirrors and protective cases, allow for easy adaptation to specific requirements. Thanks to the Linux-like real time operating system VCRT, which was developed by Vision Components, the intelligent cameras can be freely programmed. With a wider performance range than conventional vision sensors, they carry out sensor-like tasks and execute all image processing routines without an additional PC. They thereby enable automation in applications where conventional, PC-based image processing systems are too costly or too complicated to implement.
