Tapping units are fully automated machine tool accessories for accurate tapping.
These units are used on computer numeric control (CNC) machining centers, production lines and robots in order to automate tapping. Different collet sizes enable them to handle all types of tapping tools, from small to large diameters, and metric or custom threads.
Such devices resemble drilling units in that they consist of a tapping head, motor, tool holder, spindle and feed system. The feed system can be lead-screw driven or use a pneumatic cylinder to move the tap as it rotates.
When selecting a tapping unit, be sure to determine its speed (RPM), torque (Nm) and maximum stroke (mm).
