If a manufacturer of electric motors and transformers constructs a motor or transformer, then he knows how high it is. The height is determined basically by the height of the stator core. This, in turn, then determines the performance of the motor. Since the stator core is made from coated electrical steel, the thickness of the steel (filling factor) ultimately determines the performance of the motor and consequently the height of the electric motor. The procedure for using the stacking factor tester is as follows: After the samples of electrical steel have been measured and weighed they are stacked to a minimum height of 6 mm and fixed between the jowls of the press. Samples are pressed and after a pressure of 1 (+/- 0,05) N/mm3 has been attained, the actual measuring process begins. The distance between the jowls of the press is measured and in this way the stacking factor is calculated. Together with the corresponding measuring parameters the measuring result is recorded. So at any time reproducibility of the test is possible. Measurements with the stacking factor tester are carried out in accordance with IE C 60404-13.
