How to choose this product

ferrite-core

Ferrite cores are ceramic elements used to fabricate high-frequency windings. Ferrite is a type of ceramic composed of iron and other oxides or nickel, zinc or manganese carbonates. Ferrite also is used to create EMI filters for power or video cables.

Applications

These devices are also used to create filter chokes and high-frequency transformers. They are found in switch-mode power supplies, broadband radio communication transformers, to prevent EMI via interference suppressor chokes and in ultrasound applications.

Technologies

Ferrite's high magnetic permeability allows the fabrication of small, low-loss coils. Whether as toroids or closed circuits, they circumscribe and channel magnetic flux.

The core must be correctly sized to handle the heat generated by the magnetic flux, which can decrease it saturation limit. Cores differ in shape and constituent materials. Transformers, for instance, use two E-shaped 3F3-type half-cores.

How to choose

Core shape and the nature of its materials depend on the desired result. An under-sized core risks saturation, hindering performance.
