Description

Overview The ANSUL acoustic nozzle is engineered to reduce noise during discharge of gaseous fire suppression systems to protect sound‑sensitive equipment such as hard disk drives (HDDs). It is compatible with ANSUL inert gas and halocarbon systems and attenuates sound compared with standard nozzle designs. When used with the acoustic calculator, expected sound power at equipment locations can be estimated by accounting for system flow rate, nozzle proximity, and the construction and sound absorption characteristics of the protected space.

Features
  • Designed specifically for noise reduction during discharge
  • 360-degree discharge pattern for uniform gas distribution
  • Available thread sizes (NPT): 1-1/2 in. (DN40) and 3/4 in. (DN20)
  • Available thread sizes (BSPT): 1-1/2 in. (DN40) and 3/4 in. (DN20)
  • Models for use with ANSUL inert gas or halocarbon systems
  • Sound output tested and optimized
  • Drill diameter and flow characteristics sized via hydraulic flow calculation in the Suppression Design Center (SDC)

Benefits
  • Reduce risk of acoustic damage — lower discharge sound levels help protect sensitive equipment such as HDDs
  • Room acoustic modeling — enables estimation of sound pressure at equipment using nozzle sound output, HDD distance from nozzle, and room construction/sound absorption data

Usage and performance notes The nozzle attenuates discharge sound relative to standard nozzles. Use the acoustic calculator to model expected sound power at sensitive equipment locations; calculations account for system flow rate, nozzle placement/proximity and room construction. Drill diameter and hydraulic sizing are determined through hydraulic flow calculations in the Suppression Design Center (SDC).

Technical specifications
  • Discharge pattern: 360-degree
  • Thread sizes (NPT): 1-1/2 in. (DN40) and 3/4 in. (DN20)
  • Thread sizes (BSPT): 1-1/2 in. (DN40) and 3/4 in. (DN20)
  • Compatible with: ANSUL inert gas systems and ANSUL halocarbon systems
  • Sound output: tested and optimized (use acoustic calculator for expected sound power at equipment)
  • Hydraulic sizing: drill diameter determined by hydraulic flow calculation in the Suppression Design Center (SDC)
