OverviewThe Solar iWAP XN3 is a solar-powered, intrinsically safe wireless enclosure designed to deploy low-power wireless devices in Zone 2 and Division 2 hazardous areas, including remote off-grid sites. Powered by an Ex-certified solar photovoltaic module and an integrated 12.8 V LiFePO4 rechargeable battery system, the enclosure supports LTE routers, IoT gateways and other IIoT devices and provides autonomous, reliable operation where mains power is unavailable.
Power and autonomyThe system integrates an Ex-certified 30 W solar photovoltaic module (support for up to two 30 W panels in parallel) and an internal 12.8 V LiFePO4 rechargeable battery available in 15 Ah or 20 Ah options. The system is designed to provide approximately 36 hours of battery capacity without sunshine under typical configurations and the battery requires about 7 days to fully recharge under normal operating load and expected solar conditions.
RF and antennaThe Solar iWAP XN3 incorporates iSOLATE intrinsically safe RF technology, providing galvanically isolated, intrinsically safe RF outputs via standard N-type connectors. These isolated RF outputs permit the use of standard (simple apparatus) antennas and allow connection and disconnection by hand without powering down the unit.
Mechanical and environmentalThe enclosure is manufactured from marine-grade, copper-free aluminium alloy with a white epoxy powder-coated finish to reduce solar heat gain. It features an extruded aluminium chassis with integral cooling fins for thermal management and is rated for wide ambient temperatures (suitable for deployment from –40 °C to +60 °C, subject to the installed wireless device). The enclosure is highly rugged with IP66 and NEMA 4 protection for long-term outdoor operation.
Installation and configurationThe compact enclosure integrates solar controller, battery, wireless device and RF isolation into a space-efficient chassis. Two standard enclosure sizes are available and optional pre-terminated armoured interconnection kits are offered to simplify and speed site installation. Pole mounting is supported via a stainless-steel bracket.
