Touch-sensitive keypads and keyboards provide a completely flat membrane interface where each key requires only a few grams of force to actuate. The activation force is configurable during the design phase, delivering a touch-like experience while ensuring physical key actuation. These devices retain the advantages of membrane keyboards: they are insensitive to external electromagnetic disturbances and humidity, and they can be operated while wearing any type of glove. The technology dates back to early developments in 1980 and is suitable for demanding industrial applications.
