Short descriptionThe PyroCV is a compact infrared non-contact temperature sensor designed for construction machinery, offering CAN communications or a linear 0–5 V output. No complex setup is required: connect a temperature indicator and power supply to begin measurements immediately.
Sensor Features- Tested to EMC standards for construction machinery (ISO 13766-1)
- Non-contact measurement of asphalt and other non-reflective construction materials
- Temperature ranges from -20°C to 500°C (model dependent)
- Durable stainless steel 316 housing, sealed to IP67 / IP65 when mated
- Quick installation via M12 connector and M18 x 1 mm thread
- Outputs: CAN (raw) or linear 0–5 V DC
- Fast response and high stability
General SpecificationsOutput: Raw CAN and 0 to 5 V DC linear with measured temperature
Temperature range: CAN models: -20°C to 500°C; Voltage models: LT: -20°C to +100°C, MT: 0°C to 250°C, HT: 0°C to 500°C, ST: customer selectable within -20°C to 500°C (minimum span 100°C)
Accuracy: ±1% of reading or ±1°C, whichever is greater
Repeatability: ±0.5% of reading or ±0.5°C, whichever is greater
Emissivity: CAN configurable 0.2–1.0; Voltage fixed 0.95
Startup time: 250 ms; Response time: 125 ms (90%)
Spectral range: 8–14 μm
Supply voltage (sensor): 10–28.8 V DC; Max. current draw: 20 mA
Minimum load resistance (voltage only): 50 kΩ
Wiring protection: reverse polarity and shorts to other pins
CAN Protocol SpecificationsBaud rate: 250 kbps
Data format: 8 bytes — Bytes 1–4: object temperature (float); Bytes 5–8: ambient temperature (float)
Transmit interval: 200 ms
CAN ID: configurable 0–255 as a 4-byte unsigned integer
Emissivity: adjustable 0.2–1.0 as a 4-byte float
Field of View / OpticsDetects infrared wavelengths (8–14 μm) with spot sizes defined to contain 90% of detected energy. For best accuracy target size should be at least twice the measured spot. Longer distances are possible with larger measured spot sizes.
Mechanical SpecificationsConstruction: Stainless steel 316
Dimensions: sensor body length 86.5 mm
Thread mounting: M18 x 1 mm pitch, length 60 mm
Weight: 90 g
Environmental SpecificationsIngress protection: IP67 / IP65 (when mated)
Operating ambient temperature & humidity: -40°C to +85°C, no condensation
Storage temperature: -40°C to +85°C
Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)Tested to ISO 13766-1; load-dump tested according to ISO 16750-2 (clamped). System-level protection against unclamped load dump must be ensured in the host electrical system.
ApplicationsDesigned for non-contact temperature measurement on non-reflective, non-metal surfaces such as asphalt, concrete, bulk materials, painted surfaces, thick plastics, rubber and organic materials. Typical uses: asphalt paving, road rollers, concrete processing and curing.
