Description

Tapered Index Plungers (Rotary Cam, Standard Mount) Spring-Loaded Devices Now also available in metric sizes! Index plungers are precision, heavy-duty assemblies with a retractable spring-loaded plunger and a matching locating bushing (order separately). Tapered Index Plungers feature a 15° taper on the plunger tip with a mating taper in the bushing. The taper makes alignment easier and also eliminates any binding during retraction (also available with a straight plunger, for slightly greater positional accuracy). Rotary-cam action completely retracts the plunger when the handle is rotated 180°. Cam surfaces are hardened steel. Made in USA. The standard-mount configuration shown here has a whistle notch on the Index Plunger for orientation with a setscrew. This configuration is available in three sizes, with the following inch and metric plunger diameters: 1/2" and 12mm 3/4" and 20mm 1" Index Plungers and their matching bushings feature a precision-ground body diameter, but are also available with a slightly oversize unground OD to allow custom grinding to size. Index plungers are manufactured with precision working tolerances and are designed for very light interference-fit installations to avoid binding of the mechanism. Setscrews with nylon tip inserts are recommended. Setscrews should firmly contact the whistle notch, but not exert significant force. Plunger, body, and cam > 1144 steel, heat treated Rc 50-55. Center shaft > 11L44 steel. Spring > Music wire. Ball knob > Black phenolic plastic with molded-in brass insert. Bushing > 1144 steel, heat treated. DFARS and RoHS compliant.
