Description

With intelligent acoustic sensing, the dsound® system enables continuous monitoring and assurance of the quality of a wide range of materials and components directly within the ongoing production process. By leveraging advanced sound recognition methods, both in-process and holistic quality inspections can be carried out reliably and efficiently.

This technology offers significant advantages, particularly in industrial mass production: deviations and anomalies in the manufacturing process are detected at an early stage, allowing potential sources of error to be quickly identified and resolved. As a result, scrap rates, unplanned downtime, and the associated follow-up costs are significantly reduced.

A key component of this solution is the dsound® USS4 acoustic sensor, which is used, among other applications, for the quality inspection of small parts. The goal is to ensure consistently high and defect-free part quality. To achieve this, the sensor is specifically trained on the characteristic resonance frequencies of flawless reference parts.

During the subsequent inspection process, the components are acoustically excited from the outside. The resulting vibrations or sound signals are captured by the sensor and compared with the previously learned reference patterns. Based on this comparison, defective parts can be reliably distinguished from good ones.

In this way, continuous, automated, and objective quality inspection is seamlessly integrated into the production process - ensuring maximum process reliability and consistently high product quality.

Typical applications:

- Quality inspection of small parts
Screws, springs or stamped parts can be tested for cracks, material defects, or geometric deviations.
- Crack and fracture detection
Components with fine hairline cracks or internal defects exhibit altered resonance behavior. The system detects such deviations at an early stage, before failures occur.
- Material differentiation
Different materials (e.g., metal vs. plastic or different alloys) have characteristic acoustic profiles and can be reliably distinguished.
- End-of-line testing
Finished assemblies or products can be inspected at the final stage without being damaged or requiring complex disassembly.
