These small ceramic stones are PTC heating elements with self-temperature limiting characteristics. Their heating response times are fast, and they plateau when the pre-defined reference temperature is achieved. When the reference temperature is exceeded, the ferro-electrical and semiconducting properties of the ceramic material are utilized to generate an increase in resistance of multiple orders of magnitude, and thus create the self-limiting characteristics. The resistance increase can occur over a small temperature range. A result of this PTC attribute is a self-regulated heating function with a preset temperature, which is maintained with automatic temperature variation. A greater cooling degree will result in high power. The stone shape can be rectangular, square, donut style, etc. Materials used in the design are doped polycrystalline ceramics that are based on barium titanate.
