Description

Overview
The Gradient Oven Model 432 Smart I is a laboratory tabletop instrument for evaluating baking and drying behaviour of paint and powder coatings, resins, plastics and similar materials. It simulates production stoving by programming heat-up rate, target temperature and dwell times and supports tests up to 250 C (Model 432 Smart I) or up to 320 C (Model 432 Smart II). Two different coatings can be tested simultaneously when applied using a duplex (double) applicator.

Principle of the test
The unit creates a linear or step temperature gradient across a test panel via a microprocessor-controlled heating bench with 45 insulated heating elements. Users program warm-up speed, target temperatures and dwell times to determine the temperature at which visual changes or damages occur. Typical sequence: coating application, thermal exposure under programmed gradient, rinsing under running water, drying and visual evaluation after ~1 hour and after 24 hours.

Purpose and application
Intended for R&D and QC of baked coating systems (e.g. automotive finishes, stove enamels). Typical uses: determination of process temperature ranges, identification of maximum usable temperatures (e.g. binder yellowing, pigment change), process optimisation and rapid repeatable quality checks compared with convection ovens.

Operation and safety
Menu-guided operation via touch panel (languages: English, French, German). The unit provides 2 × USB ports and 1 × LAN for data/printer output. A holding device automatically transports and secures test panels during insertion/removal; a protective flap closes automatically after panel insertion. Designed for non-explosive laboratory environments; follow local safety and ventilation requirements.
