OverviewThe TABER® ABRASER 352 S (Platform) is a benchtop rotary abraser with a compact industrial design for abrasion testing. Control and drive components are housed in a durable aluminum enclosure. Operation is via an LCD touchscreen showing abrader status, visual reference of test progress, cycle/time switching (completed or remaining), programmable pause intervals, language selection and more. The 352 S (Type 1700) version includes a specimen holder for standardized abrasion tests.
Purpose and applicationAbrasion resistance is a key mechanical property of surfaces. The TABER® ABRASER is a widely used method to determine abrasion resistance and is referenced in many national and international standards. The instrument is suitable for coatings and paints as well as rubber, paper, leather, ceramics, textile constructions and metals. Typical use cases include research & development and production quality control.
Test principleAbrasion is produced by two abrading wheels that apply a defined force to the rotating specimen holder on which the sample is mounted. A defining feature is the X-pattern raster produced on the specimen.
Test methods- Mass loss method: the specimen is subjected to a defined number of revolutions; the abraded amount is determined by difference weighing.
- Visual endpoint method: the specimen is abraded until the substrate becomes visible; the number of revolutions is the measure of abrasion.
- Abrasion depth measurement: after a specified number of cycles, the abrasion depth is measured with a micrometer.
