The new international standard IEC61850 defines a communication protocol oriented towards the supervision, control and protection of electricity generation, transport and distribution systems. These are some of its main features: - A single protocol that can be used at all levels of the system, from field to supervisory. - A high level of standardisation and an accurate and clear definition of the functions and services involved. - Adoption of the Ehternet network as the transmission medium, while maintaining the possibility of evolving towards other media. Each IEC61850 gateway is equipped with an integrated configuration Web-server (accessible by typing the relevant IP address in the address bar of any Web browser of your choice), used to configure certain functional details of the gateway itself, certain IEC61850 protocol behaviours, and to monitor the correct operation of the system during the commissioning process.
