The HV-TURBO GC compressor is a part of making the aeration 99.5% self-sustainable delivering the lowest CO2 footprint over a lifetime of a compressor – we are still working on the last 0.5%.
By directly reusing the gas, generated from the digestion tanks on a wastewater plant, there is no need for taking electricity from the power grid, so the biological treatment is almost self-sustainable.
HV-TURBO has developed a gas driven design, with a special gearbox developed to absorb the high vibrations, which in combination with the highest efficient compressor provides a perfect fit to a low CO2 solution.
In Sweden the site Himmerfjärdsverket decided to install the HV-TURBO GC solution with the aim to save energy. In 2008, HV-TURBO installed one KA22-GC215. In order to get an objective analysis of the actual savings, we asked an independent engineer company to make a report of the energy consumption of the compressor. To be self-sustainable Himmerfjärdsverket needed a gas production equal to the energy production of 1145 kW. With the HV-TURBO KA22-GC215 in operation, Himmerfjärdsverket gained 1139 kW in energy saving coming from the gas production. The report concluded that 99.5% of the energy for the compressor came from reused energy.
Himmerfjärdsverkets annual saving of 9.8 MW hours equals the level of CO2 emission derived from 4950 cars in a year.
Notes: 1 kWh: 0.997 kg CO2 (coal), Average yearly distance car: 16,000 km, EU car CO2 emission/km: 123.4 g/km
