Product overview
Co-rotating parallel twin-screw extruders of the PROMIX series are designed for pharmaceutical continuous manufacturing and related polymer processing tasks. Applicable processes include hot-melt extrusion (HME), lipid extrusion, granulation, transdermal systems, implantable formulations and pharmaceutical 3D printing. As a Sino-German joint venture, Lemix supplies PROMIX extruders with GMP-compliant design, modular assembly and on-site engineering and validation support.

Description
Extrusion is a continuous processing technology that integrates feeding, melting, venting and discharge. PROMIX extruders connect upstream material handling and downstream unit operations to enable continuous production lines for pharmaceutical manufacturing and polymer-based formulation processes.

Design highlights

• CIP cleaning kit for simplified cleaning: insert cleaning hose into adapter port to flush screw and barrel.
• Detachable screw elements and barrel components for machine-washable cleaning.
• Barrel operating device and special tools allow rapid disassembly after disconnecting process units.

Applications

• Hot Melt Extrusion (HME): disperses APIs into polymer carriers (PVP, methacrylates, cellulose derivatives). PROMIX homogenizes and applies high shear to create solid dispersions, improving dissolution and bioavailability of poorly soluble APIs.
• Solid lipid extrusion: cold extrusion of lipid-based carriers to produce plastic masses suitable for thermosensitive APIs without added solvents.
• Granulation: continuous wet extrusion, wet granulation and melt granulation for production of agglomerates and spheronizable extrudates.
• Transdermal preparations: HME for topical forms including patches and implantable devices.
• Pharmaceutical 3D printing: melt extrusion deposition for additive manufacturing after API–excipient mixing.
