It eliminates back-emf issues and uses the same industrial grade M12 connector as any JVL Integrated Motor, making it easy to retrofit in-line with standard JVL power cables.

How it worksWhen the motor generates energy back to the supply line, the output voltage of PDA072 can exceed the input voltage. The PDA072 detects when the output voltage is 2-4 volts higher than the input voltage and activates the internal power dump resistor to bring the voltage back down. The "PD active red" LED remains lit while the resistor is active. If the internal power dump resistor heats up to a critical temperature (approximately 80-90°C), the temperature sensor will deactivate the power dump resistor to prevent permanent damage. The "PD too hot" LED will remain lit as long as the temperature is too high. A notable feature of the PDA072 is its ability to operate at any voltage from 8-72V, including 12V, 24V, 36V, 48V, and 72V DC.
