Description

Product overview
DMH (Dynamic Mold Heating) is a variothermal mold temperature-control process that intensely heats the mold wall before injection and rapidly cools it after filling. One or both mold halves can be temperature-controlled depending on process requirements. DMH enables single-shot production of parts with improved surface quality and enhanced material properties.

Benefits
  • Reduction or elimination of common injection-molding defects (e.g. flow lines, weld lines)
  • Enables advanced surface finishes and new design textures
  • Potential material savings and optimized cycle times

Customized heating processes
A range of heating methods is available for DMH; cooling is typically achieved with water. Selection depends on part size, geometry and target temperatures.

Inductive systems
  • Very fast heating
  • Temperature capability up to 400°C
  • Supports 3D contours and multiple cavities
  • Single-sided or double-sided cavity heating
  • Best for small to medium components
  • Partner: Roctool with HDplastics

Electric heating systems
  • Fast local heating
  • Optimized for 2D contour geometries
  • Local area heating for targeted zones
  • Typically one-sided cavity heating
  • Suitable for small components
  • Offered by multiple manufacturers

Water / water solution
  • Slow to moderate heating speed
  • Temperature range up to 120°C
  • Capable of 3D contour heating depending on design
  • Usually single-sided cavity heating
  • Suitable for small to medium components
  • Available from various suppliers

Steam / water
  • Moderate heating time
  • Temperature capability up to 180°C
  • 3D contours possible depending on tooling
  • Usually single-sided cavity heating
  • Suitable for medium to large components
  • Available from various suppliers

  • Heating geometry: 2D and 3D contour capability depending on system
  • Cavity heating: single-sided or double-sided depending on setup
  • Component size: ranges from small to large depending on heating system selected
  • Typical cooling medium: water
  • Applications: high-quality surface finishes, improved part properties, reduction of injection-molding defects
  • Integration: can be combined with temperature control on one or both mold halves
