Due to high absorption above 2000 nm, conventional glass fibres are not used to transmit the IR wavelengths generated by CO2 and Erbium:YAG lasers, but rather special capillaries - called hollow core fibres or hollow silica fibres. A silver halide coating inside the cavity serves as a light transmission channel.
Hollow core fibres for CO2 and Er:YAG lasers are available with cavity diameters of 300, 500, 750 and 1000 μm and can be equipped with various protective jackets and connectors on customer request.
