Product OverviewPROMIX-11 is a floor-standing 11 mm lab-scale twin-screw extruder for small-batch trials, formulation development, material screening and early-stage process research. It enables R&D teams to evaluate feeding behaviour, melting and mixing performance, screw configuration, additive dispersion, torque response, venting requirements and pellet quality with low material consumption.
Twin-screw Extruder ConfigurationExtrusion is a continuous manufacturing process widely used in pharmaceutical production, integrating feeding, melting, venting and discharge. Upstream material handling and downstream equipment can be connected to complete production workflows. Typical twin-screw extruder configurations are described on the product page.
Design Highlights- The CIP cleaning kit simplifies cleaning: insert the cleaning hose into the adapter port and flush screw and barrel with water.
- Screw elements and barrel are detachable and washable.
- Process units can be easily disassembled using dedicated barrel tools after disconnection.
- Modular design enables quick assembly and disassembly.
- Heater housings are finished with stainless-steel mirror polishing.
The Lemix Control System EnablesData acquisition and status monitoring for pharmaceutical equipment and lines with comprehensive user authority management and security measures. Key functions include:
- Audit trail
- Electronic signature
- Recipe management and batch record reporting
- Recordable and traceable operation processes
- Encrypted, tamper-proof database files (proprietary format)
- Logged data modifications
- Local and remote historical data backup to ensure data integrity
ApplicationsHOT MELT EXTRUSIONHot Melt Extrusion (HME) disperses APIs into polymer carriers (for example PVP, methacrylates, cellulose derivatives). PROMIX equipment homogenizes materials while shear disperses drugs at molecular level to form solid dispersions; extrudate is solidified by cooling. HME can improve dissolution rate and bioavailability of poorly soluble drugs (BCS Class II and IV).
SOLID LIPID EXTRUSIONSolid lipid extrusion uses lipid matrices to produce plastic masses at low temperatures, suitable for thermosensitive APIs without solvents or additional solidification steps; the lipid matrix affects drug solubility and release.
GRANULATIONContinuous twin-screw operation enables efficient granulation. In wet extrusion and wet granulation, powdered excipients and APIs are mixed with liquid binders and processed. Wet extrusion can produce agglomerates that are extruded through dies for spheronization; melt granulation is supported for pellet production.
TRANSDERMAL PREPARATIONSHME can produce topical dosage forms including implants and transdermal patches, as well as oral dosage forms such as tablets and pellets.
PHARMACEUTICAL 3D PRINTING PROCESSAfter mixing API and excipients, melt extrusion deposition forms feedstock suitable for pharmaceutical 3D printing.
