Description

Overview
The Series 9 is a non-contact NIR gauge that continuously measures color, moisture, fat/oil and protein simultaneously. Engineered for 24/7 operation, it delivers high-resolution, on-line near-infrared spectroscopy measurements with a user-friendly interface suitable for both operators and expert users.

Features & Benefits
  • Evolutionary technology that is flexible, adaptable and scalable to meet changing needs.
  • Enterprise-level intelligence compatible with Industry 4.0.
  • Permanently calibrated.
  • Easier operation and maintenance.
  • Lower cost of ownership over a long lifetime of operation.

Applications
Series 9 Food Gauge
  • Coffee processing – moisture, degree of roast.
  • Confectionery – color, fat, moisture.
  • Cookies and biscuits – color, fat, moisture.
  • Dairy powders – color, moisture, fat, protein.
  • Meat – color, moisture, fat, protein.
  • Savoury snacks – color (degree of bake), moisture, fat.
  • Starch and wet milling – color, moisture, fat, protein.

Series 9 Industrial Gauge
  • Powders and aggregates – color, moisture.
  • Flakes and granules – color, moisture.
  • Slurries and paste – color, moisture.

Measurement Principle
The Series 9 uses precision near-infrared (NIR) technology. It emits light at selected infrared wavelengths onto the product and measures the reflected unabsorbed light with a light-sensitive detector. Constituents (for example water for moisture) absorb discrete wavelengths; the Series 9 computes constituent levels from the measured reflected spectra. The patented high-speed “light engine” and signal processing deliver high-resolution on-line NIR results and robust operation under variable process conditions (particle size, product height, product temperature, ambient lighting, relative humidity).

Leverage the Power of Color
The Series 9 color gauge detects the full-color spectrum across standard scales (including CIE L*a*b*, Tristimulus X,Y,Z, RGB, CIELCH, ΔE* & ΔEcmc, Degree of Roast). Repeatable numeric color readings combined with moisture, fat/oil and protein measurements support process control strategies for consistent product quality.

Enhance Process Insight and Control
The Series 9 integrates with peripheral devices for display, networking and process connectivity. Typical system elements include an Operator Terminal and a Gauge Control Interface (GCI) for local display and control. Multiple gauges can be networked; the system supports Ethernet connectivity and can be incorporated in closed-loop control systems. A wireless option enables remote viewing of gauge, process and sampling information.
  • Gauge Control Interface: 10-inch touch-screen GCI; multi-lingual; three Ethernet ports plus RJ45 external port; interfaces up to 16 gauges.
  • Series 9 peripheral devices: Operator Terminal, Gauge Control Interface, Gauge Control Port, Power Hub.
  • Power and networking: Ethernet-enabled, 24 V DC operation; Power Hub for scalable power/network arrangements.

Continuous and Discontinuous Product Flows
  • Continuous flows: standard operation measures over a wide product stream area and tolerates significant product height variation without measurement degradation.
  • Discontinuous flows: optional high-speed gating detects product presence/absence to avoid recording when no product is present; ideal for individual items such as cookies or crackers.

Special Installations
  • Fluid bed dryers: can measure through sight glasses while keeping the measurement area below the powder line.
  • Gravity-fed ducts: compatible with pneumatic sampling devices (sample cup and window) to capture and measure falling product samples in enclosed ducts.

Caractéristiques / Spécifications techniques
  • Measurements: simultaneous color, moisture, fat/oil and protein (out-of-the-box).
  • Technology: non-contact near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy with patented high-speed light engine.
  • Measurement area (beam patch): standard 60 mm diameter (optional 25 mm or 10 mm).
  • Suspension distance: nominal 250 mm from mean product height to measurement window.
  • Product height tolerance: ±100 mm without affecting measurement.
  • Discontinuous flow option: integrated high-speed gating (avoids readings when no product present).
  • Operator interface: Operator Terminal and 10-inch touch-screen Gauge Control Interface (GCI), multi-lingual.
  • Networking: Ethernet-enabled; GCI with three Ethernet ports and RJ45; supports daisy-chaining and interfaces up to 16 gauges via Gauge Control Port.
  • Power: 24 V DC operation; optional Power Hub for multiple-device power/network arrangements.
  • Scalability: modular building-block architecture to scale system to site requirements.
  • Environmental robustness: unaffected by ambient lighting, product temperature, particle size variation and relative humidity changes.
  • Designed for continuous 24/7 industrial operation.
