Description

Overview
The rotary paddle level sensor comprises a rotating paddle (blade) mounted into the product stream or storage vessel to provide point-level detection. Under free rotation the paddle turns; when material reaches the paddle it imposes a mechanical load that slows or stops rotation. The sensor detects this change to indicate the presence or absence of material at the detection point.

Applications
  • Detection of dry bulk solids: grains, powders, pellets and granules
  • Used in silos, hoppers, bins and process tanks for inventory and overfill protection
  • Suitable for low bulk density materials, bridging-prone products and uneven surfaces

How it works
The paddle is driven by a small motor or torque-limited shaft. Normal rotation indicates no material at the paddle. When material contacts the paddle mechanical resistance increases (rotation slows or stops) and an internal switch or electronic sensor changes state to provide a point-level signal for control systems, alarms or automated feeding/stop sequences.

Features
  • Point-level detection (indicates above/below paddle)
  • Multiple paddle types and lengths to suit material characteristics and vessel sizes
  • Adjustable sensitivity/tuning options
  • Self-cleaning paddle designs available for sticky materials
  • Explosion-proof (ATEX/IECEx) designs available for hazardous atmospheres
  • Simple, low-maintenance mechanical principle compatible with industrial control systems

Installation and selection considerations
Assess material bulk density, particle size and shape, moisture and tendency to bridge or cling. Consider vessel geometry and inlet positions to select appropriate paddle type, insertion length and mounting (flange/pipe thread). For hazardous environments select certified explosion-proof variants and ensure correct grounding and sealing.

Technical specifications
  • Probe type: rotary paddle / blade
  • Detection principle: mechanical rotation change (slow/stop) indicates material presence
  • Target materials: dry bulk solids (grains, powders, granules)
  • Mounting locations: silos, hoppers, bins, tanks
  • Options: various paddle types & lengths, adjustable sensitivity, self-cleaning paddles, explosion-proof versions
  • Function: point-level measurement for control, overfill prevention, empty detection and alarm triggering
