Description

Freeze clamping technology enables secure and stress-free clamping of sensitive, thin-walled or difficult-to-hold workpieces. The workpiece is fixed on the freeze clamping plate without mechanical clamping forces, preventing deformation, pressure marks or damage during machining.

The compact freeze clamping plates are particularly suitable for workpieces made of metal, plastic, ceramic, ferrite, graphite, glass, rubber, neoprene, textiles and other difficult-to-clamp materials. Surface bonding through ice provides high holding force while maintaining the original workpiece geometry.

Functional principle
The freeze clamping plate operates with clean, dry compressed air. After moistening the clamping surface, the workpiece is positioned on the plate. Within a short time, a thin layer of ice forms and securely fixes the workpiece to the clamping surface.

After machining, the workpiece is released by thawing. No residues remain on the workpiece surface.

Features
• Stress-free clamping of sensitive workpieces
• No mechanical clamping forces on the workpiece
• Prevention of deformation, pressure marks and breakage
• High holding force through surface ice bonding
• Five-sided machining possible
• No special pre-machining of the workpiece underside required
• Residue-free release after thawing
• Compact design
• Fast and simple application
• Replaceable freeze plate / clamping surface
• Operation with clean, dry compressed air

Practical application
1. Connect the freeze clamping plate to clean, dry compressed air
2. Spray water onto the freeze plate
3. Position the workpiece
4. Freeze the workpiece
5. Machine the workpiece
6. Release the workpiece by thawing

Applications
• Precision engineering
• Medical technology
• Electronics and semiconductor industry
• Aerospace industry
• Watch and jewelry industry
• Machining of sensitive materials
• Grinding, milling, drilling, measuring and inspection

Suitable materials
• Metal
• Plastic
• Ceramic
• Graphite
• Glass
• Ferrite
• Rubber
• Neoprene
• Textiles

Practical note
The reaction time of the freeze clamping plate depends on the supplied air volume flow. The cooling effect can increase the strength of many materials and improve machinability. For certain materials, conventional lubrication may no longer be necessary.

Advantages at a glance
• Sensitive parts are clamped without mechanical force
• High holding force with stress-free fixation
• No residues on the workpiece
• Deformation and breakage are avoided
• No pre-machining of the workpiece required
• Ideal for complex, thin and fragile workpieces
