Centerless grinding is a cylindrical grinding operation in which the workpiece is placed on a support. This bar rotates between two grinding wheels whose position remains fixed. This technique achieves very precise tolerances, perfect roundness, and very smooth surfaces, even for very hard materials. Several centerless grinding techniques are available depending on the type of customer parts.
STAD is equipped with numerous centerless grinding machines able to proceed parts from 2.0 mm in diameter (1.6 mm in plunge) to 160 mm in diameter, with lengths up to 11 m. The main materials processed are soft and hard steels, stainless steel, Inconel, Monel, bronze, brass, and aluminum.
