Description

Symeo® LPR-SAFE is a system for safe distance measurement in compliance with the EN ISO 13849 PLd functional safety standard. It is suitable, for example, for semi-automatic and automatic crane systems or rail-bound vehicles.

Symeo® LPR-SAFE consists of radar distance measurement sensors from the Symeo® LPR-1DHP-291 (60 GHz) or Symeo® LPR-1D24 (24 GHz) series, which, together with a certified function block (EN ISO 13849 PLd) on a fail-safe Siemens PLC, enable precise, functionally safe distance measurement.

To achieve this, two redundant measurement paths, each with two sensors of the same type, are set up. Both measurement paths operate in redundant secondary radar mode and ensure that measurements are taken only to the appropriately configured partner unit. Each of the two redundant measurement paths provides distance values that are forwarded to the fail-safe PLC, where the measured distances are compared within the certified function block (EN ISO 13849 PLd). The measured values can be read on one or both sides of the measurement path and compared in a separate PLC on each side. If the deviation between the measured distances of both paths falls within the permissible tolerances, the measured values are marked as safe. If not, the measurement is marked as unsafe, and corresponding actions can be triggered by the system.

Depending on the sensor type used, different ranges and accuracies result.

The applications:

• Position Detection
• Distance Measurement
• Collision Avoidance
• Customized Solutions
