Refractory Ceramic Fibre Packing (Stainless Steel Overbraid): manufactured from high performance refractory ceramic fibre yarns, reinforced with either glass or wire filament to produce a round rope section. Our ceramic yarns are produced on traditional textile machinery by carding high purity 1260°C grade ceramic fibres with a percentage of cellulose fibre to assist in processing. The yarns are spun and combined with the relevant re-enforcing media to improve the tensile strength at extended temperatures.
Its organic content burns off at temperatures above 200°C without affecting the ceramic fibre; adequate ventilation is needed during this initial firing. Where tensile strength matters, the temperature limitations of the re-enforcing media should be considered. It is suitable for temperatures up to 1260°C dependant on application. Also resistant to most chemicals except phosphoric acid, hydrofluoric acid and strong alkalis.
The packing is non-combustible, has low thermal conductivity, and is resistant to thermal shock. Its open overbraid of stainless steel enhances the abrasion resistance and prolongs the life of the seal considerably. The E Glass filament reinforcement is rated up to 550°C. The wire reinforcement is rated up to 1000°C, Glass reinforcement up to 650°C. A graphite aqueous mineral dispersion has been added to improve abrasion resistance and aesthetics.
Please note that packing is normally supplied in loomstate form. In the manufacture of ceramic yarn a certain small percentage of organic binder is used to aid spinning. This can sometimes cause "flashing" at high temperatures.
