DescriptionThe distance, position or change of position of an electrically conductive material is measured contactlessly and without wear by an eddy current probe. A high-frequency alternating current excites a coil in the sensor head and creates an electromagnetic field that induces eddy currents in the conductive target. The resulting change in the coil's AC impedance is proportional to the sensor-to-target distance and is converted to analog output signals.
How it worksHigh-frequency excitation generates an alternating electromagnetic field. Eddy currents induced in the conductive object alter the impedance of the sensor coil. Evaluation electronics convert impedance changes into proportional voltage or current outputs for process integration.
