Manganese steel has been used in crusher wear parts for decades because of its work-hardening properties and ability to handle high impact blows.
As rocks meet the outer layer of the manganese steel its exterior layer hardens. This results in a material that is harder to wear down during operation.
It is a common misconception that higher percentages of manganese within an alloy recipe will automatically result in a more robust wear part. This is not always the case. Increasing the percentage of manganese, without adjusting the recipe's other elements (typically chrome and carbon) can actually weaken and/or produce less reliable parts.
Our Trio® experts have carefully optimised the Mn/C ratio in each alloy recipe, adjusted the wider formula, and tested the results to ensure that our Trio® crusher wear parts deliver increased reliability and wear life.
