Description

General information
The hydrogen sensor TCS (thermal conductivity sensor) is a compact measuring device designed for direct mounting on the measuring chamber via vacuum components. The sensor is pre-thermostatted by its integrated electronics, ensuring a highly stable signal. Originally developed for nitriding equipment in contract heat-treatment shops, the TCS can be adapted to special measurement tasks (e.g. low-pressure applications) through a tailored calibration method.

Applications
The TCS is used to monitor hydrogen concentration in industrial processes and to supply the measurement value to process control systems via standard interfaces. It supports quality management and continuous documentation (e.g. ISO systems) by providing continuous, reliable hydrogen monitoring in gas atmospheres.

Technical data
  • Range: 0...100 Vol.-%
  • Accuracy: relative error < 5 %
  • Response time: t90 (sensor) approx. 180 s (depends on gas distribution in the measuring chamber)
  • Sensor temperature: 50 °C (pre-thermostatted, electronically controlled)
  • Dimensions (WxHxD): 80 mm x 125 mm x 83 mm
  • Signal output: analog output 0/4-20 mA (scaling by software) and serial interface RS232 (0-5/10 V on request)
  • Power supply: 24 V DC +/- 20 %, approx. 20 W
  • Display: none, operation via software
  • Protection degree: IP 65
  • Ambient temperature: 10...50 °C; relative humidity 0...95 % at 20 °C
  • Storage temperature: -20...60 °C; relative humidity 0...95 % at 20 °C
  • Gas connection: via DIN40KF (others on request)
  • Gas supply: via diffusion (gas distribution at measuring chamber)
  • Ambient pressure: 950...1100 hPa (low-pressure applications require special calibration) — note: measured value depends on pressure
  • Warm-up time: approx. 10 min.
  • Calibration: initial characteristic-line calibration by manufacturer; 2-point calibration by user approx. every 3 months (process pressure must be known/provided)
  • Mounting: no specific orientation required
  • Cross-sensitivity: gases with high thermal conductivity affect measurement results
