Sugiyama Chain Co., Ltd.

Who we are

The Sugiyama family founded Sugiyama Chain in 1946. We began by manufacturing Japan’s highest quality bicycle chains. Since then we have developed cutting-edge technologies in manufacturing superior quality power transmission chains. In 1987, we developed the “SBR® (Solid Bushings and Rollers) chain” and became the first and foremost company in the world to supply all of its standard chains with solid bushings and solid rollers. Our manufacturing team has a rigorous quality control system which allows us to continually perfect our products and develop new innovative designs to expand to our customers ever growing needs. We consistently review our range of services and products to ensure that our customer’s needs have been filled. Our aim is to always give our best for you.

Our values

Chain components require a precision of 1/100mm. To make their molds, a micron-level accuracy which is one scale further down is needed. At our early stage, we worked on in-house production of precision molds and developed our own unique method of producing.

Our roller chain has built a reputation as a first-tier product in the world to date. Our outstanding technologies as a leading manufacturer enable to develop products that lead one step ahead of competitors.

SBR (Solid Bushings and Rollers) chain was created through product development that brought all of our best technologies together.

Our current generation Premium SBR® chain has a patent granted which includes a combination of specialized shot-peening, heat treatment, and double punched processing that increases side plate and pin fatigue strength. Fatigue strength is what gives our chain its “toughness” under repeated loads. Naturally, higher fatigue strengths result in increased Maximum Allowable Loads, the most critical figure when determining chain strength in everyday real world applications.

In addition to this groundbreaking innovative technique, the current generation SBR chains are standardly equipped with readily identifiable connecting link. SUGIYAMA developed a special “straight shaped” connecting link which achieves 100% fatigue strength that is equal to that of the chain itself. The former connecting link had only an 80% fatigue strength.
