HBM force transducers measure static and dynamic tensile and compressive loads - and virtually without any displacement. Force sensors can be supplied in the most varied of designs and classes of accuracy. Typical application areas include bench testing, e.g. force measurement to check material quality and automation technology, e.g. for monitoring quality during reshaping or bonding operations. HBM's own DKD calibration laboratory mirrors the company's competence in the area of force measurement.

Honeywell Sensing and Control Force sensors operate on the principle that the resistance of silicon implanted piezoresistors will increase when the resistors flex under any applied force. The sensor concentrates force from the application, through the stainless steel plunger, directly to the silicon sensing element. The amount of resistance changes in proportion to the amount of force being applied. This change in circuit resistance results in a corresponding mV output level.

Flange load sensors are used in almost all production lines where web type material is being processed or finished.
The load sensor comprises a stable outer ring with flange cover and centering collar for precise installation. The inner ring in the shape of a bi-directional strip assures the centered mounting of the ball bearing. The radial forces put the strain gauges of the inner ring which are linked to a measuring bridge out of balance, thereby creating an analog output signal proportional to the web force.

FMS Force Measuring Bearings are design to combine the live shaft bearings with the tension sensors to minimise machine space requirements. They can be mounted
in any orientation directly to the machine frame or with supports. The red point on the outside of the sensor indicates the positive measuring direction. The high
accuracy design ensures that even with low material wrap angles and high roller weights, tension can still be measured accurately.

BZA made of aluminum
The radial force sensors of the BZA series are suitable for the direct measurement of web tension forces which occur in the manufacturing and further processing of webs.
The sensors are used like any common flange house bearings for the measurement of tension forces. Depending on the flow of the web and the distribution of the load, the sensors can be used single sidedly or as a pair of sensors.
Features
Tenfold overloading
Light weight design made of special aircraft aluminium
Very cost effective solution

Transmitter - WST 3
The unit WST 3 is a DIN rail mounted, high performance transmitter designed for applications with strain gauge transducers. It converts the output from connected load cells into a very stable signal suitable for PC or PLC based control systems.
WST 3 is typically used where a local display is essential either for displaying data or for front panel set-up. The set-up and calibration procedure is easily performed either from the front panel or by using the deltaCOM programme via a standard PC running under Windows 95/98/2000/NT4/ME/XP.
The transmitter is fitted with two relay outputs having a response time of less than 20 msec. for use in high precision level control applications.
The WST 3 is ready for fieldbus communication in Profibus DP. Fieldbus communication is also possible via the GATE 3S module from Vishay Nobel.

The shockproof digital load cell is based on a capacitive measurement principle where a non-contacting ceramic sensor is mounted inside the load cell body. As the load cell contains no moving parts and the sensor is not in contact with the load cell body, the load cell tolerates shocks, torsion, and very high overloads and sideloads. Therefore, the mechanical installation of the load cell can be done without expensive and complicated mounting kits and overload protection devices.
The electrical installation of the digital load cell is pure plug-and-play as the signal from the non-contacting sensor is directly converted, compensated and calibrated by a microprocessor to a digital load cell output in grams, kilograms, or Newton. Measurements and status codes are transmitted as RS485 data on a single wire coaxial cable (RG-58) which may be up to 100 meters long.
The technology and mechanical design of the Eilersen load cells is covered worldwide by a number of patents.

DK2 Compression Force Load Cell
The compression force load cells of the Dk2 series are characterized by their very compact design. They have been especially developed for applications where large forces must be measured accurately within confined spaces - diameter and height. The compression force load cell of the series DK2 consist of a cylindrical membrane, whose special form was optimized according to Finite Elements Analysis (FEA). Strain gauge elements on the membrane surface capture the acting forces. The voltage supply to the full bridge and the processing of the measuring signals is effected by way of a suitable amplifier, e.g. the HAEHNE DMA. The signals at the output terminals of the amplifier are proportional to the acting compression force. They can be digitally displayed or used as instantaneous values in a control loop. The radial cable entry facilitates simple mounting of the load cell to machine frames. In order to optimize the path of the force the use of a load button or a self aligning pad is recommended.

Minimum space requirement due to compact design

Hydraulic Load Cells, Model 830/833/844
ERICHSEN hydraulic load cells provide a simple and economical method of measuring forces. The technique is based on the hydraulic transmission of forces which act on the piston of the force transducer. This hydraulic pressure is immediately indicated on a display unit with a scale in Newton. Load cells are ideal for maintenance and adjustment work as well as for the use in plants, machines and systems of all kinds. Their compact dimensions make these instruments extremely versatile. By using the appropriate accessories the measured value can also be shown on a remote display. A transmission of the measured data to the PHYSIMETR® 906 MC-B/S/E by means of a pressure transducer is also possible.

The load cell in ring form is used for the meaurement on shafts and spindles to which a load cell of standard shape cannot be attached.
The distinctive feature of this load cell by comparison with the others is the ring shape of the load cell piston and diaphragm. The force acts on a thrust roller bearing and is transmitted without rotation to the ring shaped piston. In accordance with the surface area of the piston the force acting on it is transferred to the hydraulic fluid and from there via the connecting tube to the measuring instrument.
The straightforward relationship between the pressure, force and piston surface area enables the scale of the measuring instrument to be graduated in a variety of units, e.g. kN, kg, t, m3 or litres. Maximum piston stroke is 0.8mm.
The widely differing conditions governing installation, particularly in the case of the ring shaped load cells, will often require different designs of casing and fastenings. In most cases it would be possible to adapt design to customer´s requirements. The measuring devices employed may be pressure gauges, pressure sensors or other pressure measuring devices fitted with contacts.

Load cells work like calibrated springs.
A force is applied and there is a flexion: there is a Wheatstone bridge with strain gauges that measure this mechanical flexion thence giving a proportional electrical signal.
DS Europe can also manufacture load cells with built-in CE marked electronics with analog or digital outputs.
All load cells with non amplified output 2mV/V have a built in calibration circuitry that electrically simulates a known value of force shown in a certificate ( making It easy and quick to calibrate with the external electronics getting the signal ).
