The photon counting detector modules of the PDM series are all solid-state instruments designed and manufactured by Micro-Photon-Devices (MPD) of Bolzano, Italy. They have photon detection efficiency of 48% at 550 nm and generate a TTL output pulse per detected photon. With fast-timing option (additional circuit card installed) they provide better than 50 ps FWHM photon timing resolution (NIM output pulse) for a wide range of detection wavelengths. The excellent photon detection efficiency and superior timing resolution is obtained through the use of epitaxial silicon Single Photon Avalanche Diodes (SPAD) and patented integrated Active Quenching Circuits(iAQC), specifically designed and optimized for time-resolved photon counting applications.

Distributed Feedback (DFB) Diode Lasers are fixed wavelength single mode diode lasers. Typical geometrical sizes of the laser chip are 1000µm x 500µm x 200µm (length x width x height). The laser chip is grown by MOVPE of compound semiconductor material. The optical gain is provided by double heterostructure which include several Quantum Wells for electronic confinement. Typcal emitter width range between 3µm and 7µm. The single mode emission is enforced by a Bragg grating with the laser chip. The surfaces of the laser chip act as cavity mirrors due to the difference of the refractive index of the laser material and the surrounding air. The rear facet of the laser chip is provided with a high reflection coating. The front facet of the laser chip is provided with a high quality antireflection coating for avoiding the Fabry Perot modes of the laser chip. Distributed Feedback (DFB) Diode Lasers are available at almost any wavelength between 760nm and 2800nm.

The BWF-1 laser is a system that provides up to 450 mW of continuous power and combine a high brightness glass fiber coupled to a laser diode with a thermoelectric cooler, heatsink, fan, power supply and component electronics all in one package. The unique design includes an external TTL modulation port (BNC connector). A front panel LCD display shows the laser diode drive current value (mA). An optional collimator lens can be threaded directly onto SMA connector of the emitting fiber.

Infrared Emitting Diodes
Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) are solid-state P-N junction devices that emit light when forward biased. An IRED is an Infrared Emitting Diode, a term specifically applied to PerkinElmer IR Emitters. Unlike incandescent lamps, which emit light over a very broad range of wavelengths, LEDs emit light over such a narrow bandwidth that they appear to be emitting a single “color”.
