A DRAM module is a printed circuit providing dynamic random-access memory. It is installed as central memory on a computer motherboard.
These modules are used to boost the memory of a computer or similar device.
DRAM is volatile, losing its data when power is turned off. Unlike SRAM, it requires refreshment cycles, but it offers greater density at a lower cost. Modules are small strips or bars that plug into the motherboard. Current SIMM models are 32-bit. They can be paired for a 64-bit bus or a 64-bit DIMM can be used with the proper motherboard. SO DIMM is smaller, for use in laptop computers. RIMM and SO RIMM are 64-bit modules developed by the Rambus company.
SDRAM was created for synchronous motherboard bus data access. DDR-SDRAM offers data reading on both rising and falling clock signal edges, while DDR2 and DDR3 provide increased speed.
Choice depends primarily on memory storage capacity. DRAM should be divided among several modules. The timing of operations should be coordinated with the motherboard bus clock. For example, half as fast for DDR or a quarter as fast for DDR2 would be sufficient.
